Wigan Borough Libraries Volunteer – Events and Activities
Wigan Council
Opportunities available across all Wigan Borough Libraries.
Minimum of 3 hours per day. Various shifts available on an adhoc basis
Your role:
In this role you will be helping to co-ordinate, develop and facilitate the events and activities within library branches. You will join a bank of volunteers who are available for out of library hours activities in our 15 libraries across the Wigan Borough and will work closely with our library transformation team and branch staff. You need to be willing to get involved with the delivery of events and activities that include children and adults, setting up and taking down event equipment and supporting external and internal facilitators in the delivery of their events.
An additional part of this role would involve working alongside our library transformation team, researching what is available in the area and liaising with customers on what they would like to have on offer within their local branches. You will have the confidence to work with branch staff to set up new groups to meet customer demands and community needs whilst also supporting groups and activities during usual library opening hours.
About you:
You will need to be a confident communicator and be able to tailor your approach depending on your audience whether that be adults or children. You need to be friendly, approachable, creative and willing to support a range of customers with their queries. You will also need to be outgoing and have a keen community interest, a proactive approach and a desire to support residents at Wigan Borough Libraries events.
You will need to be available to support adhoc events that take place during evenings and weekends across various locations.
About us:
Customer Services deliver a variety of services from Wigan Borough
libraries. You’ll work holistically with customers, within libraries, to help them gain access to appropriate services which will enable them to make positive life changes, gain employment and work towards building self-reliance,
improving their health and well-being and independence.
Staff members, managers and our library transformation team will be on hand to support volunteers and help with more complex enquiries. Regular support and guidance will be given by your branch manager, and an alternative volunteering opportunity may be offered after a review period if either party feels this necessary. As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to meet new people, enhance your own digital skills and develop your own communication and customer service skills that can be used in future for a CV and job applications.
