We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.
We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!
Your role:
Are you passionate about making a visible difference in your community? Join us as a Streetscene Operative and play a vital role in keeping Wigan’s streets, parks, and public spaces clean, safe, and vibrant.
In this hands-on role, you’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality cleaning and grounds maintenance across the borough. From operating pavement sweepers, inspecting play areas, supporting fly-tipping clean-ups, cutting grass and pruning shrubs, your work will help create a better environment for everyone.
As the Council’s “eyes and ears,” you’ll be out in the community, spotting issues early and helping resolve them quickly.
About you:
Are you someone who takes pride in making a difference? We are looking for someone interested in keeping public spaces clean, supporting a team and helping the community feel safe and welcome.
Whether you have hands-on experience in a Streetscene or similar role and can confidently operate a range of machinery and tools. You work well with others, communicate clearly, and stay flexible to meet service demands.
You’re organised, safety-conscious, and ready to gain qualifications like herbicide application and play area inspections.
Most importantly, you care about creating a cleaner, greener Wigan for everyone. If you’re ready to take pride in your work and help shape a cleaner, greener Wigan, we’d love to hear from you.
About us:
This role will provide the opportunity for successful candidates to be part of a service that supports Progress with Unity and Wigan, being a great place to live, work and visit, while delivering services that are high quality, flexible and responsive.
In return you will have access to a range of benefits, including a pension, staff discounts, loyalty rewards, training and development opportunities and paid annual leave.
