We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

As an Enhanced EHE & CME Officer, you will lead on complex casework within Elective Home Education and Children Missing Education Team, ensuring children receive a suitable education. You will provide professional oversight and support to colleagues, including line management responsibilities to ensure all children are in receipt of a suitable education. Working closely with schools, families and multi-agency partners, you will play a key role in safeguarding children, driving service improvement and delivering statutory duties in a fast-paced environment.

About you:

You will have a recognised professional qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Education, Social Care, Youth work or Law) and/or substantial experience working within EHE, CME, attendance or safeguarding services, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and statutory guidance. You will be confident managing complex casework and legal interventions, alongside experience of supervising staff and supporting their development. Strong organisational, analytical and communication skills are essential, including report writing and partnership working. A relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience is required, along with a commitment to high-quality practice and continuous development.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Join Wigan Council’s dedicated EHE & CME team, where collaboration, innovation and strong practice are at the heart of what we do. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a growing service, influence practice and make a real difference to children and young people. We offer a supportive team environment, opportunities for professional development and a strong Team Wigan culture focused on improvement, flexibility and wellbeing.
