Swimming Teacher (Trainee)

Salary: Grade 4, £13.26 per hour
12 positions x 2 hours per month - This role operates on an annualised hours contract. The hours will need to be worked flexibly to meet service needs. You may be required to work additional hours.
Temporary for up to 2 Years (with opportunity to become permanent once qualified)

Your role:

BeWell Wigan is recruiting Trainee Swimming Teachers to join our friendly and supportive aquatics team. No previous teaching qualifications are required we’ll fully support you with training, mentoring and onthejob experience to help you become a qualified swimming teacher.
About the role
As a Trainee Swimming Teacher, you’ll:
- Support qualified Swimming Teachers in delivering highquality swimming lessons
- Help children and adults develop water confidence and swimming skills
- Learn how to plan sessions, assess progress and motivate swimmers
- Gain handson experience alongside experienced colleagues and mentors
- Work towards nationally recognised swimming teaching qualifications
You’ll work across our leisure centres, which may include:
- Howe Bridge Leisure Centre
- Leigh Leisure Centre
- Ashton Leisure Centre
- Wigan Life Centre
- Hindley Pool
Training and progression
We’ll support you to achieve your Swimming Teacher qualifications while you gain valuable poolside experience. Once qualified, you’ll have the opportunity to move into a paid swimming teacher role with Wigan Council on a parttime basis.

- Well organised and motivated
- Happy working both independently and as part of a team
- Passionate about helping others learn and develop
You don’t need previous qualifications to apply. We also welcome applications from those who are partway through their swimming teacher training.
Hours and availability
Successful applicants will need to commit to:
- At least one shift per week
- Weekday evenings (typically 3:30pm 7:00pm)
- Saturday shifts (8:00am 1:00pm or 12:30pm 3:30pm)
