Your role:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced social worker to join Wigan West Adult Social Care Team (temporary basis) and Safeguarding team (permanent basis) as an Advanced Practitioner. Applications are welcome form internal candidates who wish to take the opportunity to progress professionally and work alongside the existing management teams and to contribute to the development and ongoing overall management of a Locality and Safeguarding team.
In the locality team you will supervise a team of Social Workers, managing the allocation of work and oversight of caseload throughput. You will ensure that there is a high standard of assessment, support planning with appropriate challenge and negotiation in the approval of packages of support, you will chair adult safeguarding meetings as required. The locality team works to a Named Social Care Worker approach which will require effective monitoring and supervision. You will act as duty Advanced Practitioner on a rota basis.
In the safeguarding team will be required to chair adult safeguarding meetings and lead sec 42 enquiries as necessary throughout the safeguarding process, including chairing case conferences and strategy meetings. You will act as duty advanced practitioner on a rota basis. You will have an ability to build stronger partnerships with other agencies, have an ability to positively challenge others in the interests of safeguarding adults and deliver training as required.
In both roles you will develop and maintain high professional standards in accordance with current and future legislative and corporate requirements. You will support the overall development and transformation of the service, the staff within the team and you will support with accountability to the senior management structure.
You will work autonomously and as a team member providing excellent customer care and demonstrate the behaviours that are expected of the Council and within the workplace.
You will develop excellent relationships with professionals, partner agencies and customer relations in line with the responsibility of the Advanced Practitioner role.
About you:
You will demonstrate a significant level of experience within an adult social work team and be registered with SW England. You will hold a qualification in management or be able to demonstrate that you have experience in the supervising of others. You will demonstrate enhanced communication skills and excellent organisational skills. You will have an extensive and up to date knowledge and the application of current legislation that is relevant to social work practice at this time.
You will demonstrate effective IT skills in order to navigate the adult social care electronic system in order to the allocation of work is effectively managed. You will work with external agencies and professionals in line with the wider service delivery in a productive and professional manner. You will demonstrate an understanding of budgets, creative approaches to service delivery to meet the needs of vulnerable residents in the community.
You will be expected to chair professional meetings. You will demonstrate an ability to make proportionate and relevant decisions on a daily basis, to support others and manage positive risk taking and to demonstrate leadership ability when required.
It is an expectation that you will display the behaviours and attitudes that are required of Wigan Council, to adhere to the Councils policies and procedures. As part of the management structure, it is required that you can display a positive, supportive and compassionate outlook and demonstrate emotional resilience when managing stressful or urgent situations.
