Driven and passionate about making a difference, she first joined Westminster as a Social Work Assistant, and her managers immediately saw she had huge potential, so they encouraged her to apply to study for a degree in social work. She passed with flying colours, and over the next fourteen years worked as a frontline Social Worker, a Senior Social Worker, a Deputy Service Manager and is now one of our Service Managers.

Kakoli’s vision is as clear now as it was all those years ago – to encourage and support children, and help them grow in safe, vibrant communities. Her achievements are many, but she’s most proud of the fact that these days Westminster doesn’t ‘do things for families’ but ‘does things with families’. And she believes this huge but subtle difference to the way we work has allowed thousands of children in Westminster to fulfil their potential and live their dreams.

The Role:

As a Systemic Family Therapist or Clinical Psychologist with Westminster Children’s Services, you can make your own powerful contribution to transforming the lives of children, young people and their families. Working within the clinical team alongside practitioners and managers in children services, your work will focus on families within the Bi-Borough Children with Disabilities team.

Working alongside social workers, you will use systemic thinking to unlock change in families’ everyday lives – strengthening relationships, reducing risk, and helping children thrive. You can expect to work creatively with families in their homes and other community settings, as well as in family therapy clinics. You’ll often engage with them at points of crisis, helping them work together to create change and build on family strengths to improve outcomes for children and young people.  

In addition to providing assessment and direct therapeutic interventions, you will also offer specialist consultation to colleagues on complex cases; contribute to teaching and coaching within Westminster and other local authorities; and facilitate reflective practice groups. As a vital part of our innovative in-house parenting assessment service, you will provide assessments and intervention in care proceedings and contribute to reports for courts.

About You:

An established professional with a qualification in systemic family therapy or clinical psychology, you’ll be registered with UKCP or HCPC. The post will involve working with children, families and professional networks on cases where children are in need, at risk of harm or who may be looked after. You will be used to working with vulnerable groups and within diverse communities.

It’s an opportunity to apply and develop your clinical skills in a context that truly appreciates and values systemic ideas. We are a pioneering local authority in systemic practice and there are substantial career development opportunities including offering systemic supervision to others as well as CPD in a variety of therapeutic approaches. You will be part of a clinical team of twenty systemic therapists across the bi-borough.
