About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF EMPOWERED FAMILIES
Children’s Services at Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories where compassionate people bring everything to their work, including their own experiences of parenting.
Take Melissa, a Senior Social Worker in our Assessment Team. She’s one of the first people families meet when accessing our services, so building rapport is critical. And that’s where Melissa’s life experience really counts. She had her first child as a young adult and knows just how judgemental others can be.
Melissa has something unique to offer and it can’t be found in a textbook: her own experience of raising two children as a single parent. She’s committed to empowering others: giving them the skills, resources and confidence they need, from housing support to baby supplies. And if the family has older kids? Well, she’s been there too. Her youngest is now 15 and Melissa knows the challenges of helping young people navigate inner-city life.
Melissa first learnt her craft as a support worker, then completed her statutory training as social worker – all while raising her family single-handed. And she’s not done yet. Supported by her managers, she’s been training in systemic therapy and is already looking forward to her next development opportunity.
Melissa’s more than a social worker; she’s a shining example to the families she works with every day.
The Role:
As a Business Support Officer within the Safeguarding, Reviewing and Quality Assurance Service, you can make your own powerful contribution to supporting vulnerable children and young people within Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Providing administrative support to the Independent Review team, you’ll ensure it runs smoothly, remains confidential and meets statutory responsibilities.
You will act as a central point for the team, responding promptly to emails and telephone enquiries from both internal and external colleagues. Using your initiative, you will ensure urgent matters are dealt with quickly and escalated appropriately, helping the service stay responsive and well-coordinated.
A key focus of your role will be supporting the administration of Looked After Children Reviews. You will manage bookings, coordinate diaries, send invitations, distribute consultation documents and reports, and maintain accurate databases. You will ensure that LAC notifications, review invites and reports are processed and shared within statutory timescales, escalating risks where needed to help maintain compliance.
You will help administer systems that improve the timeliness and quality of reviews, including proactively liaising with administrative colleagues and producing data reports for managers. You will maintain and update tracking systems to monitor review dates for all looked-after children, keeping clear and accurate records and supporting quality assurance through careful documentation and online profile updates.
Alongside this, you will use Microsoft tools such as Outlook, Excel and Word, as well as Mosaic, to manage data, produce performance and activity reports, and support informed decision-making. You will provide wider administrative support across the SRQA service, including support for the LADO service and Child Protection Conferences when required.
Through your organisation, attention to detail and awareness of statutory timescales, you will help the team stay compliant, efficient and focused on what matters most. You will also take on self-contained projects and additional duties as directed by your line manager, bringing flexibility and reliability to a role that underpins vital safeguarding work.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
You’ll bring experience of working in a business support role within a Local Authority or similar setting, with a clear understanding of the importance of professionalism and confidentiality. You’re comfortable providing a discreet, flexible service that adapts to changing demands, and experience of working with children’s services databases and systems will help you feel at home in this role.
You’ll have strong administrative skills and confidence using and maintaining support systems, including accurate minute-taking and clear record-keeping. A strong communicator, both verbally and in writing, you’re able to share information clearly and appropriately in a professional environment.
Organisation is one of your key strengths. You’re able to manage your own workload effectively, prioritising tasks and working to tight deadlines while ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. You’re comfortable working independently, taking ownership of your time and responsibilities, and keeping work on track even when priorities shift.
You’ll be confident using a range of IT packages to a high standard, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other database systems, and may also support colleagues in using these tools effectively. A working knowledge of legislation relating to Looked After Children and the statutory review process will be valuable, alongside your ability to maintain clear, accurate electronic records and contribute to a well-organised, reliable service.
