When he was 16 Mohammed came to London from a small town in the south of France and dived straight into the world of work. Once he’d found his feet and established himself, he decided he wanted to do some volunteering work and give something back to the community that had supported him on his first steps in the big city, so he approached WAES. They offered him a couple of hours a week for a few months, and he enjoyed it so much that when a temporary job in HR became available, he applied for it and was successful.

Fast forward a few years, and Mohammed is now working as a Funding and Compliance Manager, full time in the Management Information System department, and using his experience to encourage and inspire a new generation of Westminster citizens. As a member of the Kurdish community, he knows how difficult it can be to develop the skills, learnings and confidence to establish yourself in a new environment and is committed to sharing the story of his amazing journey, using it to illustrate how WAES can be a catalyst for positive growth and change.

The Role:

As a Tutor with the fast-growing Green Skills team at Westminster Adult Education Service (WAES) you can make your own powerful contribution to our success. Using your knowledge of AutoCAD and BIM/Revit, you’ll provide high quality teaching for people who want to develop their practical skills and expertise in the construction and green skills sector. Committed to maximising outcomes by tracking and monitoring learners in line with our service requirements, you’ll maximise the opportunities for positive progression by providing detailed assessments based on qualification specifications and the requirements of the awarding bodies we work with.

Offering advice, guidance and encouragement as you help learners reach their goals and ambitions, you’ll offer our Managers and Course Leaders the support they need to achieve service targets. Planning and producing high quality lessons and programmes of work, and using the appropriate diagnostics to ensure learners are on the correct course, we’ll also expect you to develop suitable resources, provide high quality tutorials and one-to-one sessions, carry out marking and assessments, and monitor each student’s progress.

You’ll have a number of additional tasks – these include completing class registers and course files, keeping these up to date, and monitoring learners’ attendance and punctuality. Committed to maintaining high levels of retention and achievement, you’ll also ensure that any student who withdraws or transfers does this in accordance with WAES’s agreed timescales.

About You:

To be a success in this role you should have proven experience of teaching and assessing learners in a post-16/further education/adult education setting, and be ready to teach online using virtual learning environments. With recognised teaching and subject specialism qualifications at a minimum of Level 3, you should also hold – or be willing to work towards – an assessor award such as TAQA or A1.

We operate our curriculum across three main sites and in community settings, and as your programme may involve evening and Saturday classes, you should be willing to work in a flexible and adaptable way.
