About the role:
Waltham Forest is preparing to open its first dedicated Crematorium Service — a landmark development that will enhance the support we provide to residents at some of the most sensitive and significant moments in their lives. This new service represents an important step forward for the borough, and we are building a team that reflects the compassion, professionalism, and care our community deserves.
As part of this launch, we are creating nine new roles across this new service for Waltham Forest.
We are a Home Office–licensed sponsor; however, for this specific role we are not able to provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. To be considered, you must already hold a form of UK work authorisation that does not require sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring that the requirements of the Cremation Acts and Regulations; the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and all relevant process guidance notes; the Health and Safety at Work Act; the Local Authorities Cemeteries Order, and all other legislative requirements are complied with.
Operate cremators, safely ensure ashes remain correctly identified. Handle remains respectfully. Maintain equipment to statutory standards
Acting as Chapel Attendant and ensuring that the Chapel is prepared in accordance with the requirements of each group of mourners and is maintained to the highest standards.
Assisting clergy and officiants and rendering assistance during the service if required. Dealing with distressed mourners.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Ability to use and maintain equipment which can be technically complex.
- Able to write and compile reports, correspondence, calculations, carry out assessments
The post holder must have a good degree of numeracy and literacy.
Qualifications in maths and English would be an advantage.
If not already in possession of the cremation technicians certificate (CTTS) will study for that qualification within 1 year of appointment in order to comply with relevant legislation.
