About the role:

You will work with learners studying Level 1 and Level 2 childcare, health and social care qualifications supporting them to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed.

You will:

  • assess learner evidence against qualification standards
  • provide clear, constructive feedback to support learner progress
  • maintain accurate assessment records in line with awarding body and service requirements
  • work with colleagues to ensure consistent, high-quality assessment practice
  • liaise with employers and workplace supervisors to support learner development

 

Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service is the local authority provider of adult education, supporting residents to develop skills, gain qualifications and progress into employment or further learning.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Childcare, Health and Social Care Assessor, to support high-quality delivery across our provision. This is a flexible role, ideal for an assessor looking to work within a supportive and community-focused environment.

This role is key to ensuring that learners are effectively assessed, make good progress and successfully achieve their qualifications.

 

About you:

We are looking for someone who:

  • has recent experience of assessing vocational qualifications in childcare, health and social care 
  • has strong occupational knowledge in the sector
  • holds a recognised assessor qualification 
  • has experience of working in adult education or training
  • is organised, reliable and able to manage a caseload of learners effectively
  • can support learners with a range of needs, including those requiring additional learning support

You will be confident working independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to maintaining high standards and supporting positive learner outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and carry out assessments, including workplace observations, to support learners to complete on time
  • Assess learner work against qualification standards and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Maintain accurate assessment records in line with awarding body and internal quality requirements
  • Liaise with internal verifiers, colleagues, and employers to ensure quality and consistency
  • Support learners throughout their programme, adapting approaches to meet individual needs

Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Recent experience of assessing vocational qualifications, including use of e-portfolios
  • Current occupational competence in childcare
  • Relevant assessor qualification (e.g. A1, D32/D33, or equivalent)
  • Minimum Level 2 English and Maths
  • Experience of teaching or training in an adult learning environment
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and across different venues
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and supporting learners with additional need
