About the Role
A proactive and detail-oriented Licensing Officer within Trafford’s Regulatory Services, based at Trafford Town Hall. Reporting to the Team Leader (Licensing/Licensing Enforcement), this role plays a key part in delivering an efficient, compliant, and customer-focused licensing service across a wide range of functions. The postholder is responsible for processing applications for licences, permits, and registrations, ensuring all submissions are accurately handled in line with legislative requirements and council procedures.
Key responsibilities include the correct collection, receipting, and banking of fees, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records, and responding promptly and professionally to enquiries, complaints, and requests for advice. The role also involves collating and analysing data to support service delivery, assisting with the preparation of committee reports, and attending Licensing Committee where required.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across Regulatory Services and with external partner agencies, the postholder will contribute to effective cross-team working and the continuous improvement of the service. This role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities, alongside a commitment to delivering high-quality public service and ensuring regulatory compliance.
About You
- 5 GCSE’s grades A-C, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) or proven experience in a relevant regulatory services role.
- Commitment to continuing personal and professional development.

Skills and abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and customers.
- Ability to construct letters and reports that are clear, concise and are appropriate to the needs of the recipient, making full use of the technology available.
- Planning and organisational skills: prioritise and manage a busy workload over extended periods, producing accurate work within deadlines.
- Ability to work on own initiative, sometimes without supervision but within broad guidelines supplied.
- Solution-focussed and able to work well under pressure, including, on occasions, in situations with the potential to encounter a verbally aggressive response.
- Developed interpersonal skills including negotiating and persuading.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
