Vocational Driver (Grade E)

We are recruiting for Vocational Driver’s  to join our Passenger Transport Team within the Communities Directorate.

If you are passionate about supporting children, young people and adults to travel safely and comfortably, committed to delivering excellent customer service, and hold a Category D driving licence, Driver CPC and valid Tachograph Card, we would love to hear from you.

In this role, you will:

  • Safely and efficiently drive passenger carrying vehicles and other Council vehicles on scheduled and ad-hoc transport services across the borough and beyond.
  • Support the safe transport of children and adults, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring their wellbeing, dignity and comfort throughout the journey.
  • Carry out vehicle safety checks, maintain accurate records, operate on-board technology and digital reporting systems, and ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation and regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, schools, carers, service users and partner organisations to deliver a reliable and responsive transport service.

About You

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A full Category D Driving Licence, Driver CPC qualification and a valid Tachograph Card.
  • Experience of driving passenger carrying vehicles, minibuses, accessible vehicles or coaches, ideally within a busy urban environment.
  • Experience of working with children, young people or adults who require additional support, including individuals with mobility, personal care or behavioural needs.
  • Knowledge of safe vehicle operation, transport regulations and the needs of customers with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • The ability to complete accurate written and digital reports, records and transport documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse community.

Additional Information

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check. The successful candidate will be required to work varying hours to meet service requirements and undertake mandatory and role-specific training.
