Temporary Accommodation Finance Officer

We are recruiting for two Temporary Accommodation Finance Officers to join our Housing Options and Homelessness Services within the Housing and Regeneration Directorate on a fixed term contract for 12 months.
This is an important role supporting the financial management of temporary accommodation. You will help ensure that invoices, purchase orders, payments, reconciliations and budget information are accurate, timely and properly controlled.
The post will also support data analysis, forecasting and the production of management information to help managers make informed decisions and strengthen financial oversight across the service.
In this role, you will:

Process and monitor temporary accommodation invoices, purchase orders, goods received, payments and other accounting activity, ensuring information is recorded accurately on the Council’s financial systems.

Analyse financial data relating to temporary accommodation rent liability, income performance, prevention, grants, recharges, purchase orders and payment activity to support accurate budget monitoring and forecasting.

Produce clear and timely management information, including monthly performance data, financial monitoring reports, reconciliations, journals, accruals and year-end account closure information.

Work with Strategic Leads/Heads of Services, Operations Managers, service leads, Central Finance and internal and external partners to resolve financial queries, improve controls, support compliance and identify opportunities to reduce spend and improve efficiency.
About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Sound knowledge of financial processes, including invoice processing, purchase orders, payments, reconciliations, account management, budget monitoring and financial reporting.

Experience of preparing, processing and analysing financial data accurately, working to deadlines and maintaining reliable financial records.

Experience of supporting budget monitoring, forecasting, management information and financial reporting processes, including the use of Excel and financial management systems such as Agresso or equivalent.

Strong communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly, resolve queries professionally and work effectively with managers, finance colleagues, suppliers and temporary accommodation providers.

Generous annual leave: 29 days, rising to 33 with 5+ years’ service, plus bank holidays and 3 additional days at Christmas.

Hybrid working is available in line with the Council’s/Housing Options & Homelessness hybrid working policy. Staff are normally expected to attend the office for at least three days each week; however, for this role you will be expected to work from the office during your first six months to support induction, training and effective integration into the service.
