Outreach Worker – Family Hubs

Are you passionate about improving outcomes for children and families? We’re looking for an enthusiastic Outreach Worker to join our Family Hub team and help ensure disadvantaged children get the best start in life.

In this role, you will lead on increasing the take up of Early Learning for 2 year olds (EL2) by engaging eligible families through creative and proactive outreach. You’ll connect with parents, carers, and residents through phone calls, emails, social media and home visits, providing clear information and support to help families access the services they need.

You will also play a key part in our community engagement work—supporting Parent Forums, attending local events, and setting up promotional stalls to raise awareness of Family Hubs and Children and Family Services. Building strong relationships with early years settings, schools, and community groups will be central to your success in the role.

We are recruiting on a Fixed Term Contract basis for one year, four part-time Family Hub Outreach Workers, each working 17.5 hours per week, to join our Early Help & Children and Families Service.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct outreach activities such as door-to-door visits, phone calls, emails, and social media to engage with parents, carers, residents, and young people in the community. 

  • Support the Family Hub team to attend and set up stalls at community events and fun days to promote the service i.e. Family Hubs, EL2, Children and Family Services. 

  • Using appropriate data such as DWP/live birth data, data sets to identify eligible children for Early Learning for Two Year Fund and Healthy Start vitamins, also register the children that have yet to be registered.

  • To build relationships with key stakeholders in the community, including local businesses, Health, schools, internal colleagues and community groups.

About You
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

Skills
  • Strong communication and engagement skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with parents, carers and community members through face‑to‑face outreach, home visits, events and forums. 
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, enabling the postholder to manage outreach activity, meet targets, maintain accurate records and contribute to evaluation and reporting. 
  • Effective partnership‑working skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with early years settings, schools, health partners, voluntary and community organisations.
Experience 
  • Experience of direct, front‑line engagement with parents, carers or service users, particularly through face‑to‑face or community‑based work. 
  • Experience of outreach or engagement activities, such as community events, door‑to‑door contact, parent forums, or promotional activities for services. 
  • Experience of working within or alongside children’s services, early years, or community‑focused services, ideally within a local authority or similar setting.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of children’s services and early education/childcare provision, including understanding of early help, prevention and supporting families with young children. 
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and responsibilities, particularly when working with children and families. 
  • Knowledge of information systems and data use, including the use of administrative systems and data sets to identify eligible families and support service uptake.
