Thanet District Council Building Control is looking for a proactive Senior Service Administrator to lead our Building Control administrative functions. This is an exciting time to join the team as we expand our services and negotiate the ever changing landscape of building regulation. This is a key role that combines team leadership with high-level regulatory oversight, ensuring our busy and growing department remains efficient and compliant as national building safety legislation evolves.

The Role

As the Senior Service Administrator, you will be at the heart of our Building Control department. You will manage a dedicated team of Service Administrators, overseeing daily workloads and ensuring the seamless delivery of the Building Control lifecycle.

You will also play a key role in the Local Authority’s readiness for the Building Safety Levy (BSL) go-live. This involves attending MHCLG engagement sessions, managing BSL revenue, and conducting essential regulatory spot checks.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead & Develop: Directly manage and mentor a team of Service Administrators, overseeing performance reviews and CPD tracking.
  • Regulatory Oversight: Support the Building Control Manager in implementing new legislation and managing the Building Safety Levy processes.
  • Customer Excellence: Provide expert guidance to customers on application types, fees and inspection requirements, ensuring a professional and courteous service.
  • Financial & Systems Management: Oversee fee calculations, financial management of applications, and act as the systems manager for Building Control software.
  • Critical Response: Manage the administrative process for Dangerous Structure sites, coordinating with legal and financial teams within statutory timelines.

What You Bring

  • Experience: Proven skills in supervising administrative teams, ideally within a high-pressure or regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge: While training will be provided, a background in Building Control legislation or Building Safety Levy procedures is highly desirable.
  • Financial Literacy: Confidence in managing financial practices, including invoicing, orders, and general accounting.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Office/Google software and data management systems.
  • Qualifications: A high standard of general education and a Level 4 Building Control qualification.
