Thanet Crematorium is looking for a Memorial Stability Tester to join our dedicated Bereavement Services Team based at the peaceful grounds of Thanet Crematorium in Margate. This is a unique opportunity to play a vital role in ensuring our local cemeteries and churchyards remain safe, beautiful, and dignified spaces for everyone.
The Role
In this role, you will work both independently and as part of a close-knit team to conduct essential safety inspections on structures and memorials. You will also step up to provide crucial coverage for the Memorial Stability Officer during their absence, acting as a reliable point of contact for enquiries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Inspections:Carry out routine stability testing on memorials across closed churchyards and local authority burial grounds in line with our official safety programmes.
- Site Maintenance:Assist with the upkeep of the auger lawns, scattering areas, cleaning memorial benches, and clearing floral tributes to keep the grounds pristine.
- Service Support:Work sensitively alongside Funeral Directors, Ministers, Celebrants, and the public to ensure all services run smoothly and respectfully. You will also assist the team with interments and burials as required.
- Operational Flexibility:Drive the company vehicle between various local sites and maintain a flexible attitude toward helping the wider team, which may occasionally include working outside normal hours.

Essential Attributes:
- Compassion & Communication:Exceptional communication skills and the ability to deal calmly, professionally, and sympathetically with the bereaved.
- Independence & Teamwork:Proven ability to work reliably under your own supervision as well as collaborate tightly within a small team.
- Accuracy:Incredible attention to detail to ensure 100% accuracy in your testing records.
- Driving Licence:A full, clean manual UK driving licence is required to travel between council sites.
Desirable Attributes:
- Experience working within bereavement services.
- A recognised Memorial Stability Testing Certificate.
- ICCM Customer Services qualification.
- Knowledge of burial laws, burial rights, and cremation administrative software.
