Thanet District Council is entering an incredibly busy and rewarding period of delivery for our Regeneration Programme. We are looking for a proactive and collaborative Project Communications Specialistto join our Communications Team.

This is a unique opportunity to be at the heart of the action. You will bridge the gap between our Communications Team and the Regeneration project team, ensuring our residents, businesses, and partners feel connected to the exciting changes happening in our towns. The Role

This is a part-time (30 hours per week), two-year fixed-term post designed to coincide with the delivery of major regeneration milestones.

As the post-holder, you will:

  • Lead on storytelling:Create and maintain communication and engagement plans to ensure we share good news stories and project progress in a timely and meaningful way.
  • Engage the community:Supporting public engagement events and managing projects on our online engagement platform, Your Voice Thanet, to gather vital feedback from residents and other stakeholders.
  • Multichannel content:Draft engaging content for newsletters, social media, and the website, while maintaining a library of visual assets like photography and video.
  • Measure success:Collate data and feedback to produce reports that evidence the impact of our engagement and help shape future project delivery.

About You

We are looking for an individual with a can-do attitude and a passion for Thanet and for telling the story of how things are changing, as a result of regeneration programmes. 

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role involving public engagement, media relations, copywriting and editing, or project-based communications.
  • A clear understanding of the principles of effective community engagement and how to work with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience in coordinating events and managing digital tools such as CMS/website updates, social media, spreadsheets and databases  
  • Knowledge of MailChimp, GoogleWorkspace and WordPress is highly advantageous.

  • Exceptional communicator:The ability to translate complex project information and make it accessible to a range of audiences.
  • Organised and proactive:Capable of working both independently and in a team, managing competing deadlines, and staying self-motivated under pressure.
  • Collaborator:A proven track record of building strong relationships and working effectively and collaboratively with external partners, across different teams/ matrix-style structure.
  • Politically astute:Sensitive to the nature of working within a local authority, delivering central government funded projects. 

Education

  • Educated to A level or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

Essential information

  • Politically restricted post:This role is designated as politically restricted.
  • Flexible working:The role may include some evening and weekend commitments to support community engagement and events.
