Thanet District Council is seeking an experienced Senior Tourism Officer to serve as the key person and driver for the daily promotion of our vibrant district. As a core member of the Tourism and Culture team, you won't just follow a plan—you'll lead it. You will be responsible for utilising creative marketing and collaborative partnerships to drive sustainable visitor growth and support local business success.

Main duties:
The Senior Tourism Officer will lead the day-to-day delivery of all tourism marketing and PR activities, which include coordinating media enquiries, managing press trips, and securing positive coverage. A core responsibility working with the team is creating inspiring content and updating the official Visit Thanet website and social channels, as well as overseeing the production of tourism guides and literature to ensure high-quality content across all channels. Furthermore, the role requires maintaining active working relationships with local tourism businesses/groups, as well as regional partners, such as Visit Kent, to provide business support and capitalise on joint promotional opportunities.
About you
We are seeking a dynamic professional who meets the following essential criteria:
Experience
- Proven experience in a tourism, marketing, or communications role.
- Experience in managing multi-channel marketing campaigns (digital, social media, and print) from concept to delivery.
- Experience in PR coordination, including handling media enquiries and organising press familiarisation trips.
Skills
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to produce engaging, accurate content for various audiences (visitors, businesses, and press).
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a wide range of partners, from small local business owners to national bodies.
- A confident communicator who can represent the council professionally at events, meetings, and on press trips.
- A flexible approach to working within a small, busy team, supporting colleagues.
Requirements
- Essential: GCSE Maths and English.
- Desirable: A professional qualification in Tourism Management, Marketing, or a related field
- This post requires a full driver's license
