Job description

The Housing Grants Team are expanding and looking for full time permanent Technical Officers to join our small but busy team improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable residents living in our district.

Every year hundreds of disabled adults and children receive grant assistance to adapt their homes under a Disabled Facilities Grant or move to more suitable accommodation. As well as this we provide grant assistance to make homes safe and avoid hospital admissions supporting vital NHS services.

You will be responsible for ensuring the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities relating to the provision of Disabled Facilities Grants and other financial assistance are met.

Duties typically include feasibility visits to agree adaptations, measuring up properties, checking cases for approval & payment, checking quality of work, and liaising with clients, contractors, Occupational Therapists, Housing Allocations and other stakeholders.

Applicants need to be able to demonstrate a sound background in dealing with the public, especially vulnerable residents, and have experience of housing, grants, adaptations or construction related fields.

You will need to be motivated, organised, and committed to deliver exceptional customer service. You need to be able to work on your own and as part of our very tight knit group and we have hybrid and flexible working available. It is essential that you have a full UK driving license and access to a car for inspection purposes as the work covers the entirety of the Tendring District area.
