The Role
About iStandUK
iStandUK is a national organisation dedicated to improving the way public services use and share information through the development and adoption of open data standards. Working with local authorities, government bodies, technology partners and service providers, we help create the foundations for more efficient, transparent and user-centred public services across the UK.
Our mission is simple: to promote data standards that support Efficiency, Transformation and Transparency across local public services.
We lead a number of nationally recognised initiatives, including:
- SAVVI (Standards and Validation for Vulnerability Information) - helping organisations improve the way vulnerability information is managed and shared.
- Open Referral UK - enabling the consistent, accessible publication of community and public service information.
iStandUK is hosted by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council, and this role is being recruited through the Council's IT service. The successful candidate will work closely with and be managed by the iStandUK team, providing technical leadership and development expertise to support the delivery of its national programme of standards and digital transformation projects.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Web Developer to lead the technical development of iStandUK's digital platforms, products and services.
This is a dynamic and varied role where you will work across a range of projects, contributing throughout the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and design through to development, deployment and continuous improvement. While your core focus will be software development, and in particular working alongside iStandUK and Tameside colleagues, you’ll also have the opportunity to directly influence design decisions and shape the future of public based digital services.
Working closely with iStandUK partners, local authorities, stakeholders and colleagues within Tameside Council, you will help develop solutions that improve data sharing, reduce duplication and support better outcomes for communities across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical development and delivery of iStandUK’s digital products, platforms and service whilst supporting Tameside’s wider Customer Experience Programme.
- Provide technical support and guidance as an active member of the iStandUK technical group.
- Design, develop, configure, test and deploy standards-based applications and automation solutions using technologies including ASP.NET, C#, React, Next.js, MongoDB, Vercel, Placecube CMS, GitHub and AI-assisted development tools.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, programme teams and partner organisations to deliver innovative, user-centred digital solutions.
- Maintain and ensure websites and digital services align with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, blueprints and design Principles.
- Expand the use of workflow automation, open standards, and AI based tooling to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Contribute to technical planning, architecture decisions and continuous improvement activities across iStandUK projects.
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about using technology and data standards to improve public services and who thrives in a collaborative, innovative environment.
You will:
- Have at least 3 years industry experience in developing web-based applications at a senior level within a professional DevOps environment.
- Have a passion for creating intuitive, accessible and user-centred digital services using a range of modern development tools and technologies.
- Be confident working across the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and design through to deployment and ongoing support.
- Bring strong technical expertise, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to complex challenges.
- Enjoy working collaborating with stakeholders, partners and users, embracing co-design and user-centred approaches to service development.
- Be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant projects that support digital transformation and the adoption of open data standards across the public sector.
What We Offer
Joining iStandUK gives you the opportunity to work at the forefront of data standards, digital innovation and public service transformation.
We offer:
- The chance to be part of a forward-thinking team committed to improving public services through the adoption of open standards and digital innovation.
- Opportunities to work on nationally significant projects that support local authorities, public sector organisations and communities across the UK.
- Flexible, hybrid working arrangements that support a healthy work-life balance.
- A supportive, collaborative team environment that values creativity, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Opportunities for professional development and growth in areas including data standards, digital transformation, service design, automation and AI-enabled technologies.
- The opportunity to shape products and services that have a real-world impact on public service delivery and citizen outcomes.
