 About the role:

We’re excited to offer an excellent opportunity to join our Housing Standards and Assistance Team as a Tenancy Relations and Enforcement Officer.

In this role, you will be responsible for the investigation and enforcement of unlawful eviction and breaches of tenancy law. As the council’s specialist for tenancy relations, you will provide advice, mediation, and enforcement under civil and criminal law to resolve disputes.

Additionally, you will provide comprehensive advice to tenants and landlords on their rights under housing legislation, educate landlords on best practice and represent the council at Landlord Forums and Tenant Advisory Panels.

This is a full time position working 34 hours per week on a permanent contract. This is a hybrid role with the expectation to attend the office at least 2 days per week.

About You:

The successful candidate should have:

  • Qualifications in Housing, Law or Environmental Health (or substantial directly relevant experience)
  • Confident interviewing and negotiation skills, maintaining professionalism in challenging situations.
  • Experience providing tenancy relations advice to landlords and tenants.

We are open to applicants with substantial experience in the private rented sector or Housing Options/Housing Standards, especially those who have worked in regulatory compliance roles with a robust enforcement background.

This role will require you to carry out site visits where needed, and so you will need to have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle. We have adopted a flexible working approach to improve work-life balance, and this includes working from home, with attendance at the office two days a week or more, and face to face meetings to ensure the functions of the department are managed and maintained.
