Job Introduction This role has a starting salary of £34,660 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week. We are excited to be hiring a Fire Ground and Face Fit Technician to join Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. In this hands-on role, you will help ensure firefighters can train safely and effectively by supporting live fire training, maintaining specialist equipment and facilities, and carrying out face fit testing that is critical to operational readiness and firefighter safety. You will prepare training venues, PPE and equipment so that training can run safely and effectively, maintain appropriate levels of consumables, and support Live Fire Instructors during training delivery. You will also carry out Face Fit testing for Breathing Apparatus and Half Masks, maintain accurate records and produce reports using relevant computer systems. The role also includes ordering supplies, cleaning and preparing Live Fire facilities and equipment, and liaising with Property colleagues and contractors regarding maintenance of training facilities. You will be based at Wray Park Training Centre in Reigate, although travel to other SFRS locations across Surrey will be required. The role involves some physical activity, including lifting and carrying equipment such as compressed air cylinders. A suitable level of physical fitness is therefore required and will be assessed by means of a medical questionnaire. Key Projects and Goals (12–18 Months) Support the reliable delivery and continuous improvement of Live Fire Training and Face Fit Testing across SFRS. Help maintain training facilities, PPE, equipment and consumable stock so that planned training can continue safely and effectively. Work with internal colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders to support maintenance, Health and Safety requirements and improvements to Learning and Development provision. Where not already held, work towards IOSH Managing Safely and relevant instructor qualifications while in role. Opportunities for Impact This role plays an important part in ensuring our operational personnel can train safely and effectively. By maintaining high standards across Live Fire facilities, equipment and Face Fit testing, you will directly support firefighter safety, operational readiness and the quality of training delivered across Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. Experience of Face Fit testing. Experience of working effectively within a team, communicating clearly and demonstrating professionalism. Knowledge of legislation relating to Health and Safety in the workplace. Strong organisational skills, with a reliable, practical and proactive approach to work. Confidence using technology and basic software or IT equipment. IOSH Managing Safely and relevant instructor qualifications are required for the role. If these are not currently held, you will be expected to achieve them while in post.
