This full-time, permanent position has a starting salary of £48,698 per annum, based on a 36 hour week. We are excited to be recruiting a new Court Presentation Officer to join our fantastic Courts Team based at Woodhatch Place in Reigate. This role is open to hybrid working with the right balance. As a team we split our time between collaborating with colleagues in the office for a minimum of two days per week, visiting schools, and working remotely, including from home. Through your work, you will help secure better attendance outcomes for children and young people. You will lead the delivery of the Council’s attendance enforcement functions, managing the Courts Team and overseeing the administration of Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) on behalf of schools. Working closely with Attendance, Advice and Intervention Officers, schools, legal services and wider partners, you will ensure that legal processes are robust, compliant and proportionate, supporting a graduated approach to improving attendance. This is a highly specialist role where your expertise will directly contribute to improving educational outcomes for children and young people. You will provide advice and guidance to schools and attendance professionals on the use of legal interventions, ensuring that statutory duties are fulfilled and that attendance concerns are addressed effectively and in line with current legislation and guidance. No two days will be the same. One day you may be reviewing evidence for prosecution, advising schools on the appropriate use of Fixed Penalty Notices, or liaising with legal colleagues regarding complex attendance cases. The next, you may be presenting cases in court, analysing enforcement trends, or supporting service colleagues to ensure that legal interventions form part of a coordinated approach to improving attendance. As the lead for the Courts Team, you will oversee and develop staff, ensuring that practice remains high quality, legally sound and aligned with Surrey County Council’s policies and procedures. You will provide clear leadership, quality assurance and professional challenge, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellent customer service. This would be a great role for someone who is motivated by achieving positive outcomes for children, has a strong understanding of attendance legislation and court procedures, and enjoys working collaboratively with schools and partners to ensure that legal interventions are used effectively, as part of a wider attendance improvement strategy. Your Application In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours : Sound knowledge and experience of the application of relevant legislation, statutory guidance or regulatory frameworks Strong practical understanding of court procedures, evidential standards and legal processes Experience of leading, managing or developing a team Strong partnership working, influencing and communication skills Surrey has both urban and rural areas and candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area.
