This role will transfer to the new West Surrey Authority from April 2027 as part of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). We are recruiting a Public Health Lead to join Surrey County Council's Public Health Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support Surrey’s public health priorities through a broad public health role with a strong workforce development focus. The role will focus on supporting the development of a skilled, sustainable and future-ready public health workforce, through coordinating learning and development opportunities, supporting trainees and learners, and promoting inclusive career pathways. Surrey has a strong reputation for public health training and workforce development. As trainee and early-career programmes continue to grow, the team works closely with local, regional and national partners to support the development, retention and progression of the future public health workforce. About the Role In this role you will lead programmes, projects and strategic initiatives that improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities for Surrey residents. Working with partners across the health and care system, you will provide leadership, manage delivery, and produce high-quality reports, briefings and presentations to support evidence-informed decision-making. You will build strong relationships across local government, the NHS, voluntary sector and wider partners, ensuring effective collaboration to deliver public health priorities and sustainable improvements in population health. Alongside a broader portfolio of public health work, you will lead and support workforce development initiatives, including workforce planning, continuing professional development (CPD), professional registration pathways, training, workforce wellbeing and equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). You will support apprenticeships, graduate training programmes, UKPHR registration and externally commissioned workforce programmes, helping to strengthen public health capacity and capability across Surrey and the wider system. Shortlisting Criteria To be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with our behaviours : Experience of working in a public health, setting such as local government, the NHS, academia, voluntary and community sector organisations. Experience of working autonomously to coordinate or deliver projects or programmes, including workforce development, training or learning programmes Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-working skills Excellent written communication skills, including report writing and presenting recommendations Relevant qualifications and registration: degree or master’s in health, social sciences or a relevant subject knowledge gained through training/experience, and either registered as a public health practitioner or willing to work towards. Knowledge of public health workforce development pathways, including UKPHR Practitioner registration.
