We have a great opportunity to join our West 1 Area team as an Assistant Team Manager . This is a Fixed Term/Secondment contract up to 31st March 2027. Your base location will be Surrey Heath with the expectation of working in other locations across the wider area of West 1 to cover the demands of the role as required. This opportunity is open to registered Social Workers looking to develop leadership experience while remaining closely connected to frontline social work practice within a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment and will involve duty oversight as well long term complex cases. About The Role As an Assistant Team Manager, you will provide day‑to‑day operational and professional leadership, ensuring high‑quality, person‑centred practice that delivers positive outcomes for residents, carers and families across our duty function and area. You will oversee and quality‑assure assessments, support plans and reviews, particularly where situations are complex or high risk, and offer expert guidance on legislation and best practice, including the Care Act, the Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding. The role involves reflective professional supervision, supporting staff to manage risk confidently, contributing to service improvement and deputising for the Team Manager when required. Close partnership working with health, housing and voluntary sector colleagues is essential, alongside a flexible response to both routine demands and unexpected challenges. You will hold direct line management responsibility for a defined group of staff, providing regular supervision, performance management and appraisals, supporting professional development and addressing wellbeing, capability or conduct issues in line with organisational policies. A key part of the role is supporting newly qualified practitioners and fostering a positive, learning‑focused team culture. You will contribute to priorities such as strengthening practice quality and consistency, embedding strengths‑based and outcome‑focused approaches and building capability across the team. You will play a central role in establishing and developing a newly formed locality team following the redesign from three separate teams into a single, larger service. This includes supporting improvement and transformation activity, contributing to quality assurance, and helping prepare the service for ongoing organisational change, collaborative working and evolving models of care.
