Your Role
Make safety central to how we deliver our building projects
Stockport Council is transforming its facilities management services, and we’re looking for an experienced professional to lead the health and safety management of our repair, maintenance, refurbishment and construction projects.
Working across our corporate and school estate, you’ll provide client-side health and safety leadership throughout the project lifecycle. You’ll work closely with project teams, contractors and other specialists to ensure risks are identified and effectively managed, providing assurance that work is delivered safely and in accordance with legal requirements.
This is a senior role where you’ll be expected to influence decisions, challenge where standards fall short and help shape how construction health and safety is managed across the Council.
About You
We’re looking for someone who combines strong construction health and safety knowledge with the confidence to operate in a complex organisation.
You’ll have significant relevant experience, qualifications and a strong understanding of construction risk management, health and safety legislation including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. Just as importantly, you’ll be able to build effective relationships with contractors, managers and professional colleagues, communicate complex issues clearly and influence others to achieve safe and practical outcomes.
You’ll be comfortable making sound decisions, managing competing priorities and using your professional judgement to identify where action is needed.
About Us
You’ll be joining Stockport Council at an exciting time as we reshape how our facilities management services are delivered.
You will join a supportive and forward-thinking health and safety team, working alongside colleagues and partners to help support construction and maintenance activity across a diverse organisation and estate.
This role gives you the opportunity to work across a varied range of projects and make a visible contribution to how we manage risk and protect the people who use, work in and maintain our buildings.
In return, we offer a competitive local government pension scheme, flexible and hybrid working arrangements, a comfortable office environment, generous annual leave and learning and development opportunities.
We’re proud of our commitment to working as one team, putting the people of Stockport at the heart of what we do and creating an inclusive workplace where colleagues are valued and respected.
At Stockport Council we are one ambitious team on a mission to create opportunities for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the borough. Working at Stockport Council means contributing to one of the most thriving towns in the North. We’re keen to recruit people with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do.
We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter as an organisation committed to the wellbeing of our colleagues. As members of the charter, we have been recognised as a great place to work for all colleagues and pledge to pay the real living wage, engage staff in key decisions and endorse fair and flexible working conditions.
If you would like to find out more about the role please contact Ann-Marie McCullough at ann-marie.mccullough@stockport.gov.uk to arrange an informal discussion about the role.
The successful applicant’s appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
This post is politically restricted under the terms of the 1989 Local Government and Housing Act. This dictates that you must seek the council’s permission before taking up any additional appointments or positions.
