Your Role
For a September 2026 start, we are seeking a motivated, inclusive, and committed Team Leader (VI-vision impairment) to join our stable and well-respected specialist service for children and young people (C&YP) aged 0-25 years.
This is a key operational leadership role, providing day-to-day oversight of the vision impairment specialist team and the Qualified Teacher of Multi-Sensory Impairment (QTMSI). The role contributes to the delivery of high-quality statutory provision for C&YP who have vision impairment, and their families.
Working closely with the Head of Service, the Team Leader for the deaf C&YP team and the QTMSI, you will support your team, families, and partners to achieve positive outcomes for C&YP across a wide range of settings and through strong multi-agency collaboration and working.
You will combine leadership responsibilities with a VI specialist teaching and advisory caseload, providing expert assessment, intervention, training, and guidance across a range of settings and contribute to service development.
You will also deputise for the Head of Service when required.
The role is well suited to VI-qualified and experienced candidates who are passionate about inclusive practice, development, and leadership.
About You
An essential requirement is that you must be a mandatory Qualified Teacher of Vision Impairment (QTVI) with substantial experience.
You will be a confident and organised professional with experience of working in SEND, education, or specialist support services.
Additionally, you should have:
- Experience of supporting statutory SEND processes, including EHCP related work
- An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within education / children’s services
- Ability to support and guide teaching and non-teaching colleagues, ideally across multiple settings and key stages.
- Effective communication and relationship building skills, solution focused, with the ability to lead, support and inspire others
- A commitment to inclusive, collaborative, and restorative ways of working
You will share Stockport Council’s values and place children, young people, and families at the heart of your practice.
