Supported Lettings - Floating Support Officer
Southwark Council
Why Southwark?
At Southwark, we are committed to preventing homelessness and helping residents achieve lasting housing stability. Our Supported Lettings Team plays a key role in this by helping people move on from homelessness and supported accommodation into settled homes in the private rented sector, providing the support they need to maintain their tenancy and build independent lives.
This is an opportunity to join a skilled and motivated team that delivers practical, person-centred support to residents with a range of needs. Working alongside landlords, housing providers, health services and voluntary sector partners, you will help people overcome barriers, settle into their new homes and achieve positive outcomes that reduce the risk of future homelessness.
At Southwark, we are ambitious, innovative and committed to delivering high-quality services for residents. If you are passionate about supporting people through significant life changes and want to make a lasting difference in one of London's most diverse boroughs, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Floating Support Officer within Southwark's Supported Lettings Team, you will support residents moving from supported accommodation, homelessness services and other temporary housing settings into private rented sector accommodation. Your role will be to help people make successful transitions into independent living and provide ongoing floating support to help them sustain their tenancies and avoid a return to homelessness.
You will work closely with residents before, during and after their move, helping them settle into their new homes, understand their tenancy responsibilities and develop the skills and confidence needed to live independently. This may include support with budgeting, accessing benefits, registering with local services, improving health and wellbeing, developing social networks and connecting with education, training and employment opportunities.
Working alongside landlords, housing providers, support agencies and council services, you will coordinate person-centred support plans and practical interventions that address barriers to sustaining accommodation. You will undertake needs and risk assessments, manage a varied caseload and act as an advocate for residents with complex needs, ensuring they receive the right support at the right time.
Through proactive tenancy sustainment work, strong partnership working and a solution-focused approach, you will help residents build stable, independent lives within the community while reducing the risk of future homelessness.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for people who are passionate about helping people move on from homelessness and succeed in their own homes.
You will have experience supporting people with a range of housing and support needs, including those who have experienced homelessness, rough sleeping, or living in supported accommodation. You will understand the challenges people can face when moving into independent accommodation and be committed to helping residents achieve long-term housing stability.
You will be confident building positive relationships with residents, landlords, housing providers and partner agencies, and be able to motivate and support individuals to achieve their goals. You will have strong assessment, problem-solving and case management skills, alongside the ability to manage a varied caseload and respond effectively to changing circumstances.
You will be organised, resilient and solution-focused, with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues and external partners. A good understanding of homelessness, housing support, tenancy sustainment and safeguarding is essential.
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to delivering person-centred support, empowering residents to develop independence, sustain their accommodation and build positive futures within their communities.
