What You'll Be Doing
Pest Control Services provide a key front line service for both residential and commercial customers across the borough and as part of Traded Services will be looking to expand its services to cater for a bigger audience in the future.
Working within a team of front line operatives you will be responsible for providing a wide range of pest control duties.
Delivering pest control services: Carry out inspections, surveys, treatments and proofing works in domestic, communal, public realm and commercial settings.
Identifying infestations: Assess pest activity, determine the cause and scale of infestations, and select the most appropriate treatment or management method.
Using treatments safely: Apply traps, deterrents, pesticides, biocides and other control methods safely, humanely and in line with BPCA standards and relevant legislation.
Providing proofing and prevention works: Carry out practical proofing measures and recommend repairs or structural changes that help prevent future infestations.
Supporting specialist work: Assist with pigeon proofing, cleansing works and the collection and transportation of stray dogs in line with safe systems of work.
Managing records and reports: Maintain clear, accurate reports of site visits, actions taken and advice given, including records that may be used in legal proceedings where required.
Giving professional advice: Act as a subject matter expert for residents, council services, contractors and stakeholders, providing practical and professional guidance on pest control matters.
Using mobile technology and systems: Operate service-related IT equipment and software to support modern working, record service activity and maintain accurate data.
Supporting service improvement: Contribute to performance improvement, value for money, customer care and service development through active participation in projects and working groups.
Mentoring others: Provide guidance and support to apprentices, trainees and work placement students, helping to maintain a high standard of technical practice across the service.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with strong practical pest control experience, good judgement and a professional approach to frontline service delivery.
Candidates should be qualified to RSPH/BPCA Level 2 in Pest Management and have good communication skills with a proactive approach to resolving problems.
You will work effectively within a team and to deadlines to deliver quality outcomes whilst providing excellent customer service at all times.
Technical knowledge: A sound understanding of pest control methods, urban pest management, relevant legislation, health and safety responsibilities and industry best practice.
Hands-on experience: Experience using baits, traps, poisons, insecticides and pest control equipment safely and effectively.
Customer focus: Experience of working in a frontline service and dealing with customers professionally, sensitively and calmly.
Strong judgement: The ability to assess infestations, identify when more detailed investigation is needed and develop practical solutions in the field.
Record-keeping skills: Confidence in writing reports, keeping clear records and using digital systems and mobile technology as part of day-to-day work.
Team and lone-working ability: The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing positively to the wider team.
Coaching capability: The ability to support and mentor trainees and newly qualified colleagues.
Awareness and professionalism: An understanding of equality duties, safeguarding responsibilities and the importance of delivering services fairly and respectfully.

Contractual hours 36 per week Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00. Overtime available.
