Project Manager – Building Safety

Sheffield City Council manages around 38,000 homes and is committed to ensuring they remain safe, compliant and fit for the future. Our Building Safety service plays a critical role in delivering this ambition, leading programmes of work that help ensure residents are safe and that the Council meets its statutory and regulatory responsibilities.

We are recruiting a Project Manager to join our Building Safety team. We are looking for someone who understands the importance of compliance, assurance, risk management and resident safety, and who can apply strong project management skills within a building safety environment.

About the role

This is a key project delivery role with responsibility for leading and managing projects and programmes that support the Council's Building Safety and Compliance objectives.

Working across a complex and highly regulated environment, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality and regulatory standards.

You will work closely with technical specialists, contractors, consultants and stakeholders across Housing, Asset Management, Compliance and Repairs & Maintenance to deliver projects that contribute to the safety and ongoing management of Sheffield's housing stock.

Projects may include building safety improvement works, compliance programmes, risk reduction initiatives, building information and assurance projects, and other activities that support regulatory compliance and resident safety.

You will be responsible for:

Leading the planning, delivery and monitoring of projects and programmes.
Managing project risks, issues, dependencies and governance arrangements.
Working with technical specialists, suppliers and contractors to develop and deliver effective solutions.
Managing project budgets and supporting value-for-money delivery.
Producing reports, business cases, project documentation and updates for governance boards and senior stakeholders.
Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Ensuring projects are delivered in line with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.

What you'll bring

We are looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering projects in complex environments.

Experience or knowledge in areas such as building safety, compliance, construction, asset management, fire safety, health and safety, housing maintenance, property services or related disciplines would be highly advantageous.

You will be comfortable working with technical information, regulatory requirements and specialist stakeholders, helping to translate complex requirements into well-managed and successful projects.

You will demonstrate:

Experience of leading projects and delivering outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
Experience of managing project risks, issues and dependencies.
The ability to work with technical specialists, suppliers and contractors to develop solutions and resolve issues.
Strong communication and reporting skills.
The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
A commitment to maintaining high professional standards and regulatory compliance.

Experience of delivering projects within housing, compliance, construction, property, asset management or building safety environments would be particularly valuable.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
