2 part-time Specialist Teaching Assistants required from 1st September 2026, to work in the Deaf/Hearing Support Service across our integrated resource provisions.
Post 1: 34 hours per week
Post 2 33 ½ hours per week
Both posts are Monday to Friday (term-time only: 39 weeks)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Deaf/Hearing Support Service as a specialist teaching assistant.
The successful applicants will have experience of working with children and young people across the early years, primary and secondary age phases. Experience of working with d/Deaf students would be advantageous.
The work will involve supporting students in mainstream lessons, and one-to-one or small group work.
BSL (British Sign Language) skills are desirable for this post at Level 2 (equivalent qualifications or experience may be considered) commitment to develop BSL skills is essential and training in BSL may be offered to the successful candidate. An NVQ Level 3 teaching assistant qualification or equivalent is also required.
Although in the first instance these roles will be based in one of our integrated resource provisions, the postholders will be expected to work as an integral part of the service which may include working with d/Deaf students in schools across the key stages and in various settings around the city. There are opportunities to develop experience and expertise in a variety of roles and settings and the postholder may also be required to provide outreach support to students in other schools.
The ability to travel across Sheffield is desirable, travel expenses paid.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
