Sheffield City Council is seeking a proactive, people‑focused Advertising and Sponsorship Officer to join our Communications Team on a 12‑month interim contract. This is a varied, self‑driven role that blends stakeholder management, sales, marketing, policy, relationship‑building and strategic thinking, offering the chance to create real impact across our city.

About the role
As Advertising and Sponsorship Officer, you’ll generate revenue across a unique estate. Multiple platforms including our website, intranet, social media, bulk email, outdoor media, publications and filming opportunities. You’ll build strong internal and external relationships, identify new commercial opportunities, and ensure activity aligns with policy, procurement and Council priorities.
The role combines daily relationship management with longer‑term planning and strategy. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy autonomy, variety and turning opportunities into results.

- Flexible and fair in approach
Experience and knowledge
- Experience in advertising, sponsorship or sales
- Proven track record of generating revenue and meeting targets
- Ability to identify and convert new opportunities
- Understanding of local government issues and constraints
- Familiarity with advertising and sponsorship codes (e.g., CAP Code)
What you’ll be doing
- Building and maintaining a strong network of contacts
- Converting leads into successful advertising and sponsorship opportunities
- Managing advertising activity end‑to‑end, including working with design and web teams
- Monitoring, reporting and forecasting revenue
- Ensuring all activity meets Council policy, procurement and legislative requirements
- Supporting development of advertising and sponsorship policy
- Contributing positively to the culture of the Communications Team

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
