Sheffield City Council's Transport Service provides a vital service in transporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs/Disabilities (SEND), on their journeys between home and school, ensuring they are supported as needed to access their education.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed people to join our Transport Operations Delivery Team in the role of Operational Delivery Assistant.

We are dedicated to providing exceptional services to all our clients in a collaborative and inclusive work environment. As an Operational Delivery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the service.

Key Responsibilities are to:

  • Provide high-level support to the service, our clients, and key stakeholders.
  • Receive, make, manage, take ownership of, and respond to telephone, messages, electronic and paper mail and personal callers.
  • Ensure any issues are owned and effectively resolved, and where these are outside the scope of responsibility, or carry sufficient risk or operational implication are reported as appropriate.
  • Liaise effectively with Drivers, Passenger Assistants, parents, schools and other agencies.
  • Provide day to day deployment of, and support to, Drivers & Passenger Assistants as required. 
  • Provide efficient and effective business administrative processes which may include receiving, monitoring and processing financial claims.
  • Operation, maintenance and development of transport service specific manual and electronic information and record systems

Successful candidates will be committed team players who are organised, flexible & dedicated to providing the highest standards of customer service. They will need to:

  • Have experience of working in a busy office environment with a good understanding of office processes and procedures, strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Have excellent communication, organisation & time management skills.
  • Be motivated to work under pressure and work in a confidential manner.
  • Be familiar with using IT systems such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Be motivated to work under pressure with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. You may be required to prioritise your own workload and that of the team, as well as meet deadlines.
  • Be confident in verbal and written communication. The Service handles private and confidential information, so discretion and confidentiality are essential.
  • Be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and be part of a rotating shift system that operates between the hours of 6.30am and 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
