Internal Auditor
Sheffield City Council
Finance and Commercial Services helps Sheffield City Council manage public resources effectively by maintaining strong financial control, promoting value for money and providing high quality financial and commercial advice. Within the service, Internal Audit provides independent and objective assurance on governance, risk management and internal control, helping services improve and supporting the Council to deliver better outcomes for the people of Sheffield.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated professional to join our Internal Audit Team within Finance and Commercial Services. You will bring a relevant technical qualification, such as AAT, part-qualified CCAB, part-qualified CIA or another relevant professional qualification, training or experience gained in an audit or financial environment. You will be committed to continuing professional development and able to demonstrate an awareness of professional standards, emerging risks and best practice.
Working in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS), you will manage the full lifecycle of internal audit reviews. This will include agreeing the scope, undertaking fieldwork, discussing findings, securing agreement to recommendations and issuing final reports. Throughout each review, you will apply risk-based audit approaches and professional techniques consistently to provide robust, evidence-based assurance.
Your work will cover the full breadth of the Council’s operations, resources, services and responsibilities, providing varied opportunities to develop your knowledge and make a positive contribution across the organisation.
You will work confidently with colleagues at all levels of the organisation, providing assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control arrangements. Where improvements are required, you will communicate clear and practical recommendations that support better service delivery.
You will have strong analytical, interpersonal and organisational skills, with high levels of numeracy and literacy. You will be able to prioritise competing tasks effectively and build collaborative working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
The post is based in Sheffield city centre. We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements, subject to service needs, and occasional site visits may be required.
