The Public Health Service is recruiting to two Public Health Practitioner roles; one will be based in our Health, Care and Communities Team and the other in our Children and Young People’s Team.

As a Public Health Practitioner, you will join a team focused on prevention, inequalities and partnership, applying evidence, creativity and systems thinking to address some of the most complex challenges facing our city.

These roles sit right at the heart of Sheffield’s commitment to fairness, inclusion and prevention and will support the Public Health Service in delivering its vision that ‘Everyone in Sheffield lives their healthiest life.

About the roles

As a Public Health Practitioner; Health, Care and communities’ team

You will:

Lead, project manage and monitor work on Public Mental Health including improving mental wellbeing, suicide prevention and addressing gambling harms.
Lead, project manage and monitor work within Healthcare Public Health including using a creative health and life course approach to improve health outcomes and progress the work of Age Friendly communities
Work collaboratively across agencies and boundaries to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequalities
Design and implement both whole population actions and targeted interventions focused on groups experiencing the poorest health outcomes
Use data, evidence and intelligence in needs assessments, to inform priorities, design interventions, track progress and demonstrate impact

As a Public Health Practitioner, Children and Young People’s team

You will:

Contribute to the development and delivery of work focused on Children and Young People’s public health including; giving every child the Best Start in Life (Best Start Family Hubs and Healthy Babies Programme), delivery of our local SEND strategy ‘shaped by what’s around us’, implementation of the Fair and Healthy Sheffield plan and supporting the development of work with the early years and education sectors.
Design and support both whole population interventions and targeted actions focused on children, young people and families experiencing the poorest health outcomes.
Contribute to needs assessments, strategies and the delivery of action plans. Including a focus on design and delivery of our Young People’s Insight Survey.
Use data, evidence and intelligence to inform priorities, design interventions, track progress and demonstrate impact.
Collaborate with colleagues across the council and partner organisations (including Sheffield Children’s Foundation Trust, VCF partners and Learn Sheffield) to provide public health knowledge and expertise into children and young people’s programmes and practice.

The Children & Young People’s Public Health team works closely with Children’s Services in the Council and across the city. Our work aims for every child to belong in a loving family, a good quality home, in their local school where they feel they belong, thrive and attain, in their local community where they are valued and respected and a member of the City of Sheffield where their voice is heard and they can see the impact of their voice on decisions.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
