This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality facilities services across a diverse portfolio of council buildings and community spaces. You will help ensure our properties are safe, compliant, and fit for purpose, enabling staff, customers, and communities to thrive.
About the Role
As a Facilities Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations undertaken in council buildings, ensuring excellent standards of service delivery and statutory compliance. Working closely with colleagues, contractors, customers, and stakeholders, you will contribute to the efficient management of facilities services across the city.
You will be involved in a wide variety of activities including staff and resource development and control building inspections, contractor management, health and safety monitoring, customer liaison, and supporting planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the condition, performance, safety, security and cleanliness of council buildings, assets and facilities within a regionally assigned area of Sheffield.
- Support the management and delivery of planned and reactive maintenance works.
- Proactively conduct site inspections and identify maintenance, compliance, and operational issues.
- Ensure effective performance and KPI reporting
- Ensure effective building user liaison
- Liaise with contractors and service providers to ensure works are completed to agreed standards.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Investigate and respond to building-related enquiries, incidents, and service requests.
- Support the management of facilities budgets and procurement processes where required.
- Responsible for line management, training, development and monitoring operational performance of service delivered by operational staff including Facilities Assistants and Cleaners.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and performance data.
- Work collaboratively with council services, customers, and external partners.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in facilities management, property management, building maintenance, or a related field.
- Possesses excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Has strong, effective staff management skills
- Has a good understanding of health and safety requirements within a facilities environment.
- Can manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Is proactive, organised, and solutions focused.
- Has strong IT and administrative skills.
- Can work flexible to cover need so seven day a week service for 7am - 7pm
- Can work independently while also contributing positively within a team.
A relevant qualification in Facilities Management, Building Services, Health and Safety, or a related discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
