Ranger – South Team & Gleadless Valley Regeneration Programme

Sheffield is proud to be known as The Outdoor City, with 4,130 hectares of green space across 752 sites. Among these is Gleadless Valley—a unique and diverse landscape rich in ancient woodlands, meadows and home to a vibrant local community. 

 

About the Role 

We are seeking one enthusiastic and dynamic Ranger to join our skilled Parks and Countryside Service, working as part of the Ranger Service  contributing to the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Programme. This long-term initiative is delivering lasting, visible improvements across five priority areas, including Green and Blue Spaces. 

As a Ranger, you will work with : 

  • Lead on the management and enhancement of ancient woodlands, meadows and other key habitats and projects
  • Develop and deliver practical conservation activities
  • Engage local communities in environmental projects and stewardship
  • Encourage residents to explore, enjoy, and care for the greenspaces of the valleyfor planet, people, and prosperity
  • Work closely with the Gleadless Valley Regeneration Team, partners, and community to ensure green spaces are central to the area’s transformation

This is a hands-on role that combines outdoor work in all weather conditions with community engagement and project delivery.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
