HR Recruitment Officer

Fixed term maternity cover until 31 March 2027

Are you organised, confident with people and able to keep things moving in a busy recruitment environment? We are looking for an HR Recruitment Officer to join our friendly Recruitment and Talent team on a fixed term maternity cover contract until 31 March 2027. The role is worked on a hybrid basis, with two days per week based in our city centre office in Sheffield.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience of working in HR, recruitment or similar role who enjoys variety, takes pride in accuracy and can deliver excellent customer service in a high-volume, fast-paced setting.

In this role, you will support recruitment activity from advert through to appointment. You will work closely with candidates, recruiting managers and stakeholders, providing clear and accurate information, helping people follow the right processes and making sure the experience is professional, inclusive and well organised.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • manage a busy workload, multitask and prioritise effectively in a deadline-driven and changing environment
  • work accurately, follow processes and work to instructions
  • use a range of IT systems and digital platforms with confidence
  • communicate clearly and professionally with candidates, recruiting managers and stakeholders
  • provide helpful, accurate information and take ownership of enquiries
  • promote equality, diversity and inclusion in the way they work and the service they provide

You will be joining a team that supports recruitment across the Council and helps managers attract, appoint and welcome new colleagues. Every day will bring different priorities, so you will need to be flexible, organised and able to remain calm and focused when working to competing deadlines.

If you have HR or recruitment experience, strong attention to detail and a commitment to inclusive, fair and positive recruitment, we would love to hear from you. Read the job description and person specification, then apply online and tell us how your skills and experience make you a great fit for this role.

If we receive a high number of applications, we may close the advert early, so please submit your application as soon as possible.

Closing Date:   6 September 2026

Interviews week commencing 14 September 2026

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups.  We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Guaranteed Interview scheme, applicants who are disabled, care leavers, or armed forces veterans will be guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria and indicate their eligibility on the application form.  Sometimes, if lots of people apply, we might not be able to interview everyone who qualifies for the Guarantee. In these cases, we’ll interview the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026. Find out more on our Sheff news page.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone and where appropriate to the role the successful applicant will be required to undertake relevant safeguarding checks.
