Assistant Project Manager

Sheffield City Council

£39,481 to £43,149

Building Safety team.

We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join Sheffield City Council’s Building Safety & Compliance service.

This role will support the delivery of projects and programmes that help ensure council homes remain safe, compliant and well managed. Working within a busy project environment, you will provide project support, information management and performance reporting across a range of Compliance activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with data, information and insight, and wants to use those skills to support the successful delivery of projects and programmes.

You will support Project Managers and the wider Compliance function by:

  • Coordinating project information, records and reporting activities.
  • Producing and maintaining project schedules, risk information, performance reports and management information.
  • Supporting the monitoring of project costs, progress, risks and key milestones.
  • Analysing performance information and helping identify trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintaining accurate project records and ensuring information is up to date and accessible.
  • Supporting stakeholder communications and helping maintain effective relationships with colleagues, contractors, and partners.
  • Assisting with audit, governance, procurement, and contract administration activities.

A significant part of the role will involve working with information and data to support decision-making. You will help develop reports, track programme performance and ensure that managers have access to accurate and timely information. The ability to organise, interpret and present information clearly is therefore just as important as project management skills.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Is confident working with data and reporting tools.
  • Can analyse information and present findings clearly to different audiences.
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enjoys solving problems and working collaboratively with others.
  • Has experience supporting projects, programmes, performance management or information management activities, or can demonstrate strong transferable skills.
  • Is interested in developing a career in project and programme delivery.

Experience of using data and insight to support decision-making, performance improvement or programme reporting would be particularly valuable in this role.

This is an opportunity to join a developing service, gain experience across a varied project portfolio and help deliver services that directly impact homes and communities across Sheffield.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups.  We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Guaranteed Interview scheme, applicants who are disabled, care leavers, or armed forces veterans will be guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria and indicate their eligibility on the application form.  Sometimes, if lots of people apply, we might not be able to interview everyone who qualifies for the Guarantee. In these cases, we’ll interview the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

Equality of pay is extremely important to us. All roles at Sheffield City Council are going through an evaluation process which may result in changes to some pay arrangements from 2026. Find out more on our Sheff news page.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all individuals, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone and where appropriate to the role the successful applicant will be required to undertake relevant safeguarding checks.
