We're looking for a skilled, motivated and compassionate individual to join Sheffield City Council's Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Service and help young people build positive futures.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of young people by providing practical support, information, advice and guidance that helps them progress into education, employment and training.

As an IAG Assistant, you will work directly with young people across Sheffield, building positive relationships, supporting them to overcome barriers, and helping them achieve their aspirations.

About the Role

You will encourage, motivate and empower young people to identify their goals and take positive steps towards achieving them, particularly those who are:

Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)

At risk of becoming NEET
Experiencing social, emotional or practical barriers to progression
Preparing for adulthood with SEND support needs

No two days are the same. One day you might be helping a young person complete a college application, another supporting someone who has lost confidence after leaving education, or working alongside schools, families and partner organisations to remove barriers preventing a young person from achieving their ambitions.

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with young people or vulnerable groups.
Can build trust and engage effectively with a wide range of young people and families.
Is organised, resilient and able to manage a varied workload.
Is committed to inclusion, equality and improving outcomes for young people.
Understands and reflects the diverse communities we serve, bringing valuable insight, lived experience or cultural awareness to the role.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
