Salford City Council is recruiting a Service Manager to lead their 16+ Leaving Care Service Next Steps, ensuring we continue to provide an exceptional service for all cared for children and care leavers.

This is an exciting role for a passionate and innovative Social Work Manager who is committed to shaping the futures of children and young people.

During our Ofsted inspection in November 2023, the Service was recognised for their outstanding work with our care leavers.

Next Steps is based in Salford Opportunities Centre, and the service consists of a team of Social Workers, Aftercare Workers, Practice Managers, Reviewing Officers, a Community Parenting Officer, Finance Officers and Administrative colleagues who support young people aged between 16 and 25.

Within the role, you will also have responsibility for the managing the Missing From Home Service which is an established team, overseeing children who go missing, liaising with partner agencies, supporting with safety plans, ensuring return home interviews are completed and that all procedures are followed.

You’ll lead initiatives to improve outcomes for young people, focusing on increasing the number of those in education, work and training and ensuring they have access to appropriate and safe accommodation. Above all, your work will provide all cared for children and care leavers with the best opportunities and pathways to successful, independent futures.

Your role will include:-

  • To Lead, supervise and manage the Next Steps Service to deliver high-quality, timely and focused Assessments, Plans, interventions and Reviews
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality services that support young people’s transition to independence
  • Safeguarding young adults and supporting successful transitions to adulthood
  • Champion the voice and participation of care experienced young people, ensuring their views shape service delivery and decision-making
  • Being a strong, visible leader, with the ability to inspire and challenge practice effectively
  • Promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement
  • Build and sustain effective partnerships across statutory, voluntary, and community sectors to enhance Salford City Council’s Local Offer
  • Support recruitment and workforce development to ensure a skilled and motivated team
  • Manage budgets effectively and deliver value for money
  • Drive performance improvement to meet and exceed local and national targets
