About The Role

This an exciting opportunity to join Runnymede Borough Council as we continue our positive work in the Community. We are looking for a caring, organised and enthusiastic Assistant Day Centre Manager to join the team at Eileen Tozer Day Centre. This is a varied, hands-on role supporting older people to maintain their independence, confidence and wellbeing in a welcoming centre environment.

Working closely with the Centre Manager, you will help to deliver the day-to-day service and deputise in their absence. This includes taking responsibility for the building, maintaining appropriate staffing levels and supporting staff and volunteers to ensure continuity of service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and encouraging service users to maintain their independence and access facilities for personal care when required;
  • Planning activities and events around service users’ interests and encouraging participation;
  • Monitoring wellbeing, identifying changes in need or health, and reporting and recording concerns appropriately;
  • Maintaining attendance records, following up non-attendance and writing and reviewing individual support plans;
  • Liaising with next of kin, Adult Social Care and other agencies to arrange support and assistance;
  • Undertaking centre administration, processing accident and incident reports, handling payments and banking monies in line with council procedures; and
  • Acting as a keyholder and administering emergency first aid when trained and required.

About You

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our small, dedicated team at Eileen Tozer Day Centre. The successful candidate will bring a strong combination of personal qualities, practical skills and relevant experience, including:

  • Good literacy, numeracy, communication, basic IT and administrative skills, together with experience of working with people and an understanding of the needs of older people.
  • Supervisory experience and the ability to manage staff, volunteers and the centre for short periods are essential.
  • You will be empathetic, reliable, patient, positive and organised, with the initiative to work calmly under pressure as part of a team.
  • Experience in a day centre or care environment, working with volunteers, activity coordination, basic bookkeeping and a current First Aid certificate would be advantageous. Safeguarding knowledge is required.
  • You must be willing to complete required training and work flexibly, including covering the Centre Manager’s absence, occasional evenings or weekends, working at other RBC Social Centres when needed and supporting an Emergency Rest Centre in the event of a borough emergency.
  • Confidence in handling cash, receiving payments, reconciling daily takings and preparing Council monies for banking accurately and securely.
  • The successful candidate will also be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
