About The Role

Do you have a love of history? Are you passionate about education? Chertsey Museum is seeking a part-time Educational/Curatorial Assistant to help deliver and expand their award-winning education service. The successful candidate will work 22 hours per week delivering sessions on a range of subjects that aid the National Curriculum using objects from the museum’s collection. Sessions will last from 1 to 3 hours and be held at the museum and at local schools within the Runnymede Borough and surrounding areas.

  • Fire up young people's enthusiasm for history through dynamic, interactive sessions in schools and at the museum
  • Help develop a programme of fun and engaging craft activities for children and families
  • Develop curatorial skills such as collections care and exhibition installation
  • Engage with members of the public to unlock their personal history through our archives and research room

Salary

Please note that Runnymede Borough Council is currently undertaking a pay and grading review, which is expected to be implemented during the summer. The successful applicant will be appointed under the Council’s current grading and salary structure and, following implementation of the new framework, will be assimilated into the revised pay structure in line with all existing employees.
 
This grading in the new pay structure for this role will be RBC4 with a salary range of £34,388 to £37,589.

About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about history and keen to tell the stories of Runnymede's past to school children to join our team. The successful candidate will be able to engage with children in a fun and interactive way. We are looking for exceptional candidates with a range of skills including:

  • A passion for history and a creative approach to designing and delivering engaging educational sessions.
  • Experience working with children, combined with a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards learning and development.
  • Demonstrable experience in planning and delivering community engagement projects.
  • Confidence in presenting to groups and engaging with a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, with a willingness to travel to schools and other venues within a 20-mile radius of the museum.
