About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Runnymede Borough Council and the future West Surrey Council as we continue our positive work supporting residents to live independently through safe, reliable and caring community transport services.

Working 25 hours per week, the Community Transport Driver plays a vital frontline role, supporting residents to reach essential appointments, services and activities through the delivery of a professional, passenger‑focused transport service.

As the Community Transport Driver, your day‑to‑day role will include:

  • Transporting residents, including older people and those with mobility difficulties, using fully accessible minibuses
  • Following prepared daily schedules and routes while maintaining excellent passenger care
  • Creating a calm, friendly and respectful environment for passengers throughout each journey
  • Assisting passengers safely on and off vehicles, maintaining dignity and professional boundaries
  • Completing vehicle safety checks, reporting defects, and keeping vehicles clean and fueled
  • Reporting safeguarding or welfare concerns promptly and following agreed procedures
  • Communicating effectively with supervisors and colleagues to aid smooth service delivery
  • Aiding Meals at Home deliveries and other Community Services functions when required
  • Assisting during civil emergencies when council transport support is needed

About You

We are looking for a reliable and compassionate individual to join our team who can provide a safe, respectful and passenger‑focused transport service. We are seeking exceptional candidates with a range of skills and experience including:

  • A full UK driving license with D1 entitlement and eligibility to drive council vehicles (over 21)
  • Experience providing a frontline service to members of the public or service users
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and working with vulnerable passengers
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to engage patiently and respectfully with passengers
  • The ability to follow schedules, procedures and instructions accurately
  • Confidence working independently with minimal supervision
  • A calm and professional approach when dealing with unexpected situations
  • Willingness to undertake training including first aid, manual handling and additional service‑related training
  • Physical ability to assist passengers safely and regularly enter and exit vehicles
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekends, bank holidays and during civil emergencies
