Policy Adviser (Social value and community wealth)

About the role

Rochdale is the birthplace of the modern co-operative movement, and as a Co-operative Council we are proud of this heritage. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering programmes that are firmly rooted in co-operative values and principles. You will help drive the implementation of our Social Value Framework and work closely with key partners, particularly within the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector, to maximise the impact of local investment and realise our ambitions for community wealth building.

This is a unique opportunity to influence policy, strategy and decision-making across the Council and beyond, ensuring that public spending, procurement and investment create meaningful and lasting benefits for local people, businesses and communities. Working at the heart of the organisation, you will help translate ambition into action, reducing inequality, retaining wealth within our borough, expanding opportunity and improving health and wellbeing for our residents.

The role is initially a fixed term contract of 18 months with funding through the Live Well programme. Contract extension is dependent on further funding being agreed.

About you

We are looking for a talented relationship-builder with a strong understanding of local government, social value and community wealth building. You will be comfortable analysing complex issues, managing projects and influencing a wide range of stakeholders, from senior leaders and elected members to community organisations and regional partners. Curious, proactive and solutions-focused, you will have the ability to spot opportunities, develop innovative approaches and turn ideas into results. Above all, you will share our passion for making a difference and be committed to helping build a stronger, fairer and more prosperous Rochdale Borough where everyone can benefit from growth and success.

About the team

The Policy Team sits in the well regarded Corporate Policy, Performance and Improvement service. The service is small but well respected and with an excellent track record of delivering projects that support Council’s ambitions and priorities. The policy team team has a high reputation across Greater Manchester and has gained respect nationally. With a good track record in bringing in millions of pounds of funding, its works has been held up as shining examples of good practice.
