Redbridge Information, Advice & Support (RIAS) Services Assistant

Job description

21 Hours per Week | Fixed Term for 12 Months (with the possibility of extension)

Redbridge Information, Advice and Support Service (RIASS) is looking for an enthusiastic and committed SENDIASS Caseworker to join our small but busy team.

RIASS provides impartial information, advice and support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and their parents and carers. We are passionate about ensuring families understand their rights, have their voices heard, and are supported to make informed decisions about education, health and social care.

As a SENDIASS Caseworker, you will work directly with children, young people and families, providing information, advice and support on a range of SEND-related issues. You will help families navigate statutory SEND processes and ensure they are empowered to participate fully in decisions about the outcomes they wish to achieve.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
  • Has experience working in a school, educational, SEND, advocacy or advice-giving setting.
  • Has knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory procedures.
  • Understands the SEND Code of Practice (2015), Equality Act (2010) and IAS Minimum Standards.
  • Has excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Can confidently communicate with families and professionals, both verbally and in writing.
  • Is able to manage sensitive information with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Is confident speaking to groups and delivering presentations.
  • Has good IT skills and experience of maintaining accurate case records.
  •

The successful applicant will be willing to undertake and complete IPSEA legal training to Level 3 (if not already achieved).

The role requires flexibility, including occasional early morning and evening meetings, and travel across the London Borough of Redbridge.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND and their families while developing specialist knowledge within a well-established and highly valued service.
