Assistant Psychologist

Full Time - 2 year fixed term contract

We are seeking talented and passionate Assistant Educational Psychologists to join our Access and Inclusion Department. This role will enhance the Mental Health Support Team’s (MHST) early intervention mental health offer to schools.

What is an MHST?

MHSTs are a national initiative in response to the Government’s plans to transform children and young people’s mental health provision.

MHSTs have three core functions:

• Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild-moderate mental health difficulties
• Supporting the senior mental health lead in the delivery of their whole school/college approach
• Giving timely advice to school and college staff and signposting to external specialist services

Redbridge MHST:

We are committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people in diverse and often challenging situations. Our MHST is an Educational Psychology led team which works alongside Redbridge Educational Well-Being Team (REWT) a creative team providing universal whole school support and a well-established Educational Psychology Service (EPS) as part of Redbridge’s Access and Inclusion department. The MHST is a dynamic team with strong connections to our schools and local community who provide support across multiple levels in the borough ranging from individual intervention and whole school involvement to borough wide campaigns.

The Opportunity:

Assistant Educational Psychologists will work under supervision as part of a dynamic team where evidence-based interventions, new ideas and ways of working to support children and young people (CYP) are actively encouraged. This approach requires flexibility and adaptability, and above all a passion for working with CYP in educational settings. The post-holder will, under supervision, develop knowledge and practice skills to employ a range of evidence-based interventions for common mental health difficulties via direct individual and group support for children, young people, and their parents. The post holder will also have opportunity to engage in a range of whole school projects and borough wide campaigns such as trauma informed practice training, peer support in schools and our ‘Break the Stigma’ campaign.

The Assistant Educational Psychologist will:

• Assist educational psychologists in supporting the needs of children and young people.
• Conduct supervised consultations and assessments, ensuring involvement from children/young people, educational settings, and parents/carers.
• Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to work directly with children, young people, and families.
• Promote well-being at a whole school level and support project delivery led by the MHST. This may involve delivering training, facilitating interventions, event coordination, and research contributions.
• Collaborate closely with educational settings and colleagues across the borough.
