Sustainability and Retrofit Manager

Job description

Permanent – Full time

Location: Orchard Housing Office, IG8 0AG

Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.

We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the city.

We’re looking for a Sustainability and Retrofit Manager to shape how we deliver decarbonisation and retrofit across our housing portfolio.

This is a senior, high‑impact role with real influence. You’ll lead the strategic direction, set standards and provide assurance across large‑scale programmes, ensuring delivery is compliant, investable and aligned with our long‑term asset strategy. You’ll play a central role in meeting our net zero ambitions, improving residents’ homes, and driving better outcomes from significant investment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading the council’s housing sustainability and retrofit approach
  • Setting programme direction and ensuring delivery is evidence-led, compliant and audit-ready
  • Overseeing governance of retrofit funding and ensuring value for money
  • Providing assurance against PAS2035/2038 and regulatory requirements
  • Working across asset management, capital programmes, finance and building safety
  • Acting as the key link between strategy, delivery and compliance

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in retrofit, decarbonisation or sustainability within housing or a regulated environment
  • Strong understanding of retrofit standards, funding and programme governance
  • Ability to challenge, influence and provide clear, evidence-based advice
  • Experience working across multiple teams to drive coordinated delivery
  • A strategic mindset with strong risk awareness and decision-making skills

Why join us

  • A genuinely strategic role with senior visibility and influence
  • Opportunity to shape and lead large-scale retrofit and sustainability programmes
  • Work that delivers real impact for residents and carbon reduction
  • Collaborative environment across asset, finance and delivery teams

This is a key role for the service and a chance to lead meaningful, high‑profile work. If you want to influence at scale and deliver real outcomes, we want to hear from you.

This role requires a minimum of 3 days per week office-based presence to support collaboration, oversight and engagement.
