About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Fire Safety Officer to support the delivery of our Fire and Building Safety strategy across a designated housing portfolio.
Reporting to the Fire Safety Service Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation and supporting the safety of residents, staff, and visitors. This includes undertaking fire risk assessments, managing remedial actions, and working collaboratively with internal teams, contractors, and external agencies such as the London Fire Brigade.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery and continuous improvement of Fire & Building Safety across housing stock
- Conduct fire risk assessments and manage associated remedial actions
- Ensure compliance with current fire safety legislation and regulatory requirements
- Assist in maintaining the Golden Threadof building safety information
- Liaise with contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory responses
- Review technical specifications and provide fire safety advice and solutions
- Monitor contractor performance, invoices, and value for money
- Maintain accurate records including fire safety documentation, safety case files, and emergency plans
- Carry out inspections of fire doors and other fire safety systems
- Support the management of building safety cases and ongoing risk assessments
Key Requirements & Skills
- Experience working within local authority, housing, or public sector environments
- Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, building safety regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience carrying out or supporting fire risk assessments and managing remedial works
- Understanding of the Building Safety Act, compliance frameworks, and audit processes
- Ability to interpret technical information and provide practical safety solutions
- Experience working with contractors and managing service delivery
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with internal teams and external agencies
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Competent in maintaining accurate records and using IT systems for reporting and data management
- Knowledge of health & safety practices including risk assessments and safe systems of work
Desirable
- Experience working with housing stock in a compliance or safety-focused role
- Knowledge of Golden Thread principles and building safety case management
- Understanding of local government financial and procurement processes
Additional Information
- No line management responsibility
- Involvement in out-of-hours call rota may be required
- Role may involve site visits and working in challenging environments
