Housing Standards Manager

Job description

Location: Lynton House, IG1

Permanent – Full Time

We are seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking officer to take a leading role within our Housing Enforcement Team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, case direction, and operational support to the Renter’s Rights Action Team
  • Lead the delivery of reactive intelligence led enforcement activity across the private rented sector.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with housing standards, regulatory requirements, and property licensing schemes.
  • Act as the lead enforcement manager for the implementation of the Renter’s Rights Act, ensuring the service is fully prepared, compliant, and operationally aligned with new statutory duties.
  • Ensure high quality, timely, and legally robust service delivery.
  • Support staff development, performance, and professional decision-making.
  • Lead or contribute to service improvement projects, policy updates, and strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the service at internal and external meetings, panels, and operational forums.

This role requires exceptional organisation, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate proactively and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, evolving regulatory environment.

Who Should Apply.

This opportunity is ideal for colleagues who:

  • Hold a degree or Diploma in Environmental Health, or another qualification relevant to housing standards enforcement.
  • Want to develop or enhance leadership and management experience.
  • Have strong knowledge and experience of housing enforcement.
  • Hold an appropriate management qualification and/or significant experience managing teams in an enforcement or regulatory setting.
  • Are HHSRS competent.
  • Demonstrate initiative, excellent problem-solving capability, and positive, professional behaviours.
  • Can motivate colleagues and model high standards of practice.
  • Can manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes under pressure.
  • Are keen to lead on a major legislative change through the implementation of the Renter’s Rights Act
